Equitable Recruiting, Retention, Data Tracking, and Onboarding
Part of the Leadership Academy Series

As career development and recruiting professionals, we pride ourselves on knowing what effective hiring should look like—but do we apply those same best practices when hiring for our own teams? Are we truly minimizing bias, ensuring equity, and giving our search committees the structure they need to make confident decisions?

How often has a candidate thanked you for your process—even after not getting the job?

In this session, we’ll explore how to walk the talk. We'll share our comprehensive, three-week onboarding process that fosters collaboration and connection from day one—featuring informal meet-ups, shadowing opportunities, tech trainings, and key introductions across departments. One recent hire described it as “the most in-depth, intentional introduction to a new role” they’ve ever received.

You'll leave with actionable tools to improve both your hiring and onboarding practices—building inclusive processes that make new staff feel welcomed, valued, and set up for long-term success.

Launching Careers: Advocating for a 'National Employment Signing Day' for College Graduates

The idea for the “National Employment Signing Day” event is a spinoff from college athletics national signing day—involving athletes signing letters of intent to compete at a college or university. The main purpose of this brand-new event was to highlight our graduating students’ accomplishments—receiving job offers. Additionally, it is a way for the college's employer partners to connect again with the students they hired, promote their organization/brand, and their career opportunities. Furthermore, it could be utilized as an Admissions recruitment tool for both students and parents. During the inaugural event, students signed their names, and the name of their employer. Approximately 40 students “signed”, along with six employers who traveled to attend this first-year program. This will now be an annual signature event for the college's students and employer partners, with the number of attendees expected to rapidly grow to 50+ students and 20+ employers next year. We are calling on all college career services across the country to join us in establishing a "National Employment Signing Day" to be held every year on the last Thursday of April!
