Duties and responsibilities 

It is the mission of USG’s Career and Internship Services Center (CISC) to collaborate with USM partner institutions and the regional business community to engage, empower, and prepare undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni for their futures including continued education and meaningful, relevant employment. The Center utilizes best practices to provide innovative services, programs, resources, and experiential learning opportunities to enhance each student’s academic experience; and aid students in translating both their academic and co-curricular experiences into professional employment opportunities. The Center provides critical services and programming which support career readiness among students; enabling students to enter the workforce polished, competitive, and capable of navigating an ever-changing workforce.

This position is needed to provide critical support for the CISC with an emphasis on student support services and academic outreach. This position will play a fundamental role in CISC’s collaboration with academic partners, faculty, and the regional business community to deliver career readiness support to students at USG.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Outreach and awareness building.
  • Direct service to students, career coaching and consultation.
  • Oversight of student experiential learning activities, coordination, and presentation of workshops and group career development activities.
  • Event planning.
  • Data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and reporting.

Physical Demands:

  • Professional working environment.
  • Light lifting, event set up, and the ability to transport and set up of materials to and from various events (outreach events, employer events, community events, etc.) both on and off-campus required.

Additional Position Details:

Full time (12 month) exempt, contractual staff position. Salary and benefits provided. This position is located in Rockville, MD. The salary range for this position is $50,589 - $52,000. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 22 Days Annual Leave; 15 Days Sick Leave; 3 Days Personal Leave; 15 Paid Holidays; Tuition Remission; Health, Dental, Vision and Prescription coverage. Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No H1-B Visa sponsorship is offered for this position. 


Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education required.
      • Minimum of three years of professional experience in career services, student affairs, human resources, or workforce development required.
      • Minimum of one year professional experience in position providing direct career coaching services to students or clients required.
      • Minimum of one year experience with the development of student-related programming required.
      • Regional travel to partner institutions, employer sites, workforce and community events, and other meetings required. Limited travel to regional and national conferences also required.
      • Ability to work some evening and occasional Saturday hours also required.

Preferences:

      • Master’s degree with an emphasis on counseling, higher education, student affairs, workforce development, business management, or human resources preferred.
      • Preferred candidates will have a Master’s degree in Counseling and/or a Career Coaching certification issued by NACE, PARW/CC, NCDA or another professionally recognized certifying agency.
      • Previous professional experience and understanding of the Montgomery County and State of Maryland regional business communities preferred.
      • Professional experience with the University System of Maryland, its partner institutions, and/or regional higher education centers preferred.
      • Employee should demonstrate leadership skills, the ability to work well both individually and within a group, and the ability to successfully collaborate with USG’s partner institutions, partner Career Centers, and academic program representatives.
      • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
      • Employee should also demonstrate excellent written and communication skills, demonstrate strong public speaking skills, and hold the ability to develop positive, ongoing relationships with employers.
      • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills consistent with counseling and building developmentally supportive relationships with students.
      • Possess knowledge and experience in the areas of strategy implementation, service delivery, project management, performance management, strategic partnerships, and talent management.
      • Should be able to successfully navigate in a higher education environment, with the ability to manage direct services and programming for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other constituents.
      • Employee should have an understanding of career readiness competencies, general employment guidelines and trends, employer hiring/human resources processes, and regional workforce needs.
      • Should have an understanding of the policies, practices, and procedures involved in a career services operation in a university environment, including knowledge of business and industry opportunities.
      • Should have an understanding of professional development and experiential learning activities for students, including knowledge of how to manage co-curricular programs, which provide meaningful outcomes for students.
