This is the second of four Regional ACE Workshops that are being coordinated by MPACE, EACE, SoACE and MwACE.
Recruiting and career services professionals are well aware of the fundamental legal risks inherent in the recruiting and hiring processes. In this changing world, however, we are all facing new challenges:
- How can you balance a commitment to promoting diversity and principles of equal employment opportunity?
- When should you “test” applicants and what limitations apply?
- Is it legal to reject an applicant because of information listed on her “MySpace” page?
- What information should you include in offer letters to give the organization maximum flexibility, while not discouraging the “best and brightest” from accepting a position?
- What are some of the various legal issues involved with internship recruiting?
Goals of Presentation:
Attendees will understand the legal risks associated with recruiting and better hiring activities. We will address the applicant screening process, targeting qualified candidates, how to select candidates for interviews, who is the “most qualified” candidate, and what to do if the organization’s needs change after making a job offer.
Program Description:
This program is intended to provide attendees with an interactive and dynamic learning experience to help them gain a better understanding of the legal principles applicable to college recruiting activities. Though a good portion of the information covered will be beneficial for employers, internship recruiting will also be discussed, a topic that is often critical to colleges as well.
