Job Description/Purpose

The Career Service Center at Towson University is accepting applications for an Experiential Learning Coordinator/Career Advisor to provide students with professional and effective career advising and goal attainment, with an emphasis on experiential leaning, through access to relevant information, resources, programs and connections. To coordinate, advise, and support the Center's internship and experiential programs. To establish a liaison relationship with a designated college and identify, develop and market college-specific, career-related resources. Description Meet with students and alumni to assess and coach around career-related needs. Provide advising and guidance related to career decision-making, self-marketing, job/internship location and graduate school preparation. Identify and assist with appropriate resources. Includes in-person and virtual advising. Contribute to maintaining/improving internship team communications with all constituents. Support initiatives of the Cross-Campus Internship Coordinating Committee. Coordinate job shadowing and other career exploration programs as pre-internship/exploration experience. Serve as Experiential Learning team contact for employers developing and posting new internship positions. Develop and deliver programming, which could include workshops, college-specific events, conferences, seminars, presentations, fairs, panels, networking events, etc. Coordinate with relevant Career Center and other TU staff regarding marketing, logistics and assessment. Facilitate and deliver workshops/presentations at the request of external audiences (faculty, student groups, Admissions, Orientation, etc.) based on identified needs or audience. Prepare and customize content as needed. Serve as a liaison to identified unit(s) to facilitate communication with faculty, staff and students in assigned liaison area (including off-site satellite hours); provide support to the unit's students/faculty/staff; increase satisfaction and utilization; and develop an increased understanding of the liaison's unit's needs, concerns, and field-specific content. Actively participate in all-staff meetings and provide support as needed to the Center's programs and initiatives. Contribute to the Center's data collection and assessment efforts. Proactively stay current on related professional topics, best practices, and trends; includes participation in internal and external conferences and training, professional associations, independent reading, connection to other professionals, etc.


  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field and two years of related experience with a focus on coaching, counseling or higher education.
  • Knowledge of trends in career development, local and national job market/economy.
  • Passion for student success and career advising/coaching in a higher education environment. Expertise in self-branding techniques and job/internship search strategies.
  • Experience with event/program management.
  • Knowledge of issues related to employment barriers, issues of workplace accommodations, and the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Experience with the application of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Ability to work independently and to cultivate productive and effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience and comfort with technology.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
