| EACE Privacy Policy
The Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE) respects
the privacy of its members and visitors. As such, a link to the
EACE privacy policy appears on all pages that ask for personal
information. The following components of the EACE privacy policy
explain its practices for gathering and using information from
members and visitors to its web site.
- Cookies and IP Addresses
EACE tracks IP addresses to measure traffic on its site. The
web server automatically recognizes domain names and e-mail
addresses for each visitor to the EACE web site. EACE does not
use IP addresses to determine any user's identity. Career services
professionals, graduates, job seekers, and students who use
the EACE web site are not required to accept cookies. Only career
services professionals who desire to customize their career
services' web pages are required to accept cookies. A cookie
is a piece of data that EACE stores on the member's computer
when visiting the EACE web site. The only personal information
that a cookie contains is information the computer user supplies.
A cookie cannot read other data from a computer's hard disk.
- Outside Web Sites
The EACE web site contains links to other sites. EACE is not
responsible for the privacy practices of such web sites. Inclusion
of links to an outside web site is not an endorsement of the
outside web site or a guarantee that the information it contains
is accurate.
- Forms
Members may be asked to use an online form to register an opinion,
or register for a conference or program. These forms typically
ask for:
- contact information (such as phone number or e-mail address),
- unique identifiers (such as EACE membership number or
account number),
- financial information (such as a credit card number),
and
- demographic information (for example, location, type
and size of organization).
Contact information from these forms is used only for the
purposes noted on the form. Unique identifiers (specifically,
password or member number) are collected from EACE members
to verify the user's identity and for use in EACE's record
system. Information from these forms is also used by EACE
to send members information about products, services, conferences,
and other information that may be of interest. Members not
wanting to receive mailings (regular or electronic) from
EACE should refer to the "opt-out" section on
the web site.
- Mailing Labels/E-mail Addresses
EACE does not provide any e-mail addresses, postal addresses,
phone numbers, or other personally identifiable information
that it collects on its web site to any individual or organization
for any purpose, including commercial. EACE uses the information
collected to improve the content of its web site, enhance existing
services and member benefits, and plan for new services and
member benefits. EACE may also collect aggregate information
regarding which pages visitors access as they use the EACE web
site.
- Chat Room and Online Discussion Groups
EACE makes networking and chat opportunities available to its
visitors through chat rooms and online discussion groups. Any
information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public
information, and individuals should exercise caution when deciding
to disclose personal information. EACE cannot control the acts
of its members and visitors who use the chat rooms and discussion
groups. Disclosure of personal information, such as name, e-mail
address, mailing address, and phone number, may lead to that
information being used by others for unsolicited e-mail or other
contact. In its chat rooms and discussion groups, EACE collects
all contact names, e-mail addresses and dialogue. Dialogue in
the chat rooms and online discussion groups may be archived
for later retrieval by an EACE committee or staff member. Messages
go to the archives as they are posted.
- Security
The EACE web site takes every precaution to protect user information.
When users submit sensitive information via the web site, the
information is protected both online and off-line. When sign-up
form(s) ask users to enter sensitive information (i.e. credit
card numbers), that information is encrypted and protected.
While encryption is used to protect sensitive information online,
EACE also does everything in its power to protect user information
off-line. Access to all users' personally identifiable information
- not just the sensitive information mentioned above - is restricted
to only the EACE members who need the information to perform
a specific task (for example, billing assistant or customer
service representative). The EACE web site uses firewalls to
protect from loss, misuse and alteration of the information
under its control.
- Changes to Privacy Policy
EACE reserves the right to alter its privacy policy. Any changes
to the policy will be posted on the EACE web site. For members
of EACE, this privacy statement is a supplement to, not a replacement
for, any other agreements or terms already provided by EACE
to its members. Questions about the EACE privacy statement or
the related practices of the site should be addressed to the
EACE Webmaster: webmaster@eace.org.
