Description:

How can you ensure your students are learning what you want them to learn?  Create workshops that have specific student learning objectives and outcomes.  Christa Downey, Director, Engineering Co-op and Career Services, Cornell University, and Carol Crosby, Assistant Director, Career Services, Bridgewater State University will present the steps you can take to turn a traditional workshop into a high level learning experience for your students. 

After this webinar, participants will:

  • Know the definitions of student learning objectives and outcomes
  • Have the ability to create specific student learning objectives for a workshop
  • Know three methods of assessing a workshop based on student learning objectives

Carol Crosby is Assistant Director in Career Services at Bridgewater State University (BSU) in Bridgewater, MA.  Her work in higher education has spanned 20 years and she has worked in career services offices for 12 years.  She has a M.S. in College Student Personnel from the University of Rhode Island and has attended the HERS Institute at Wellesley College, NACE’s Management Leadership Institute, and the Fulbright International Education Administrators Program in Germany.  She has been a member of BSU’s Student Affairs Assessment Committee and has participated on the program review team for accreditation for her office. She presented her office’s approach to assessment as it relates to students’ skill development at NACE’s 2015 Annual Conference in Anaheim, California.

Christa Downey is the Director of Engineering Co-op & Career Services at Cornell University. Christa has been working in career services at Cornell since 2004. After a few years in the College of Arts & Sciences, she recently returned to the College of Engineering as Director of Engineering Co-op & Career Services. She is currently co-chair of the Task Force on Assessment for the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers. A Pittsburgh native, Christa holds a B.S. in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon University and an M.S. in College Student Personnel from Miami University in Ohio. Prior to joining Cornell, she worked with college students in a variety of capacities across several two and four year institutions. Her growing interest in learning outcomes and assessment led to the creation of a career services learning objectives rubric, now being implemented across two undergraduate colleges at Cornell.
