New this year to the EACE 2013 Annual Conference is the opportunity to give back through Community Service! Whether you’re interested in “hands on” service, or making a tangible financial donation, we’ve got something for EVERYONE!
Before the official start of the conference, on Tuesday, May 28th from 9am-11am several EACE members will work with NJ One Stop, a community agency providing individuals with assistance to develop the skills needed to succeed in a 21st century work environment. Our members will have the opportunity to staff breakout tables assisting in the areas of Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Networking & Social Media, and Job Search Strategies.
While packing your bags for the conference, consider digging deeper into the closet to add gently used professional clothing and accessories that will also be donated to a local non-profit. If you’re doing some spring closet cleaning, please consider saving some items for the conference!
Finally during the conference, the association will be collecting funds through a dynamic raffle with proceeds to be donated to both Habitat for Humanity and Cure NF (or Neurofibromatosis); a genetic disorder that Jack Burke is currently battling. Jack is the young son of Jake Burke, a long-time EACE member. Jake started his career in Career Services at UMASS Lowell and is most recently with InterviewStream as the VP of Employer Sales. Check out the website they created for Jack at www.curenfwithjack.com. Here is a quote from Jake and his wife Beth directly from the Jack’s homepage....
"When we were first told that Jack had NF, we did the requisite research, leaving us terrified and devastated. While our beautiful toddler peacefully slept in his crib, we read what we could possibly expect: Tumors. Deformities. Learning Disabilities. Cancer. Vision loss. Pain. Death. No Cure. No Effective Treatment. Not our baby. Not our Jack. Since that time, we have realized that the one thing we can control about NF is our decision to do our part to find a cure."
