From the North (on I-190):

side. You will see our building as you come up Niagara, you will see the

By car from the South
Take Interstate 93 NORTH to Exit 23, Government Center. Stay in the LEFT lane onto North Street. Go through one set of lights. At the second set of lights, turn LEFT onto Congress Street. Take the first RIGHT onto State Street. State Street turns into Court Street. Turn LEFT onto Tremont Street. At the third light turn RIGHT onto Park Street. Follow Park Street up the hill to the State House.

By car from the West
Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90) EAST through the Boston tolls. Take Exit 22, Copley Square/Prudential. Stay in the RIGHT lane and follow the signs for Copley Square. This will lead you to Stuart Street. Continue straight through five lights. At the sixth light, turn LEFT on Charles Street South. Continue through two traffic lights passing by Boston Common. At the third light, make a RIGHT on Beacon Street. The State House will be on your LEFT.

By car from Logan International Airport
Follow signs to the Sumner Tunnel to Boston, stay in the LEFT hand lane of the tunnel. Upon exiting the tunnel, follow the signs for Government Center. Take a LEFT at the first light. At the first traffic light continue straight onto New Chardon Street. Go through the next traffic light, (a Mobil gas station will be on your RIGHT). Continue straight, and at the next light make a LEFT onto Cambridge Street. Continue through three traffic lights. At fourth light, make a RIGHT on Park Street. Follow Park Street up the hill to the State House.

By car from the Northwest
Take Route 2 EAST into Cambridge, MA. This will lead you to the Fresh Pond Parkway. (This is a winding road.) Follow signs for downtown Boston and Storrow Drive EAST. Take Storrow Drive for approximately 5 miles. Get off at the exit for Government Center and Cambridge Street. At the end of the ramp at the traffic light, turn RIGHT onto Charles Street. At the fifth light turn LEFT onto Beacon Street. The State House will be on your LEFT.

The Massachusetts State House does not have public parking facilities. We recommend using public transportation, as it is more convenient and less expensive, however, the nearest parking facility to the State House is the Boston Common Garage, operated by the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. By Public Transportation (MBTA)

• Red Line (from Alewife, Ashmont or Braintree Stations)
  Take train to Park Street Station. Once outside the station walk up Park Street toward the State House.
• Orange Line (from Oak Grove or Forest Hills Stations)
  Take train to Downtown Crossing. Walk up Winter Street (away from Filenes and Macy’s) and turn RIGHT onto Tremont Street. Take first LEFT onto Park Street. Walk up Park Street to the State House.
• Blue Line (from Wonderland or Airport Stations)
  Take train to Government Center Station. At Government Center Station, take a LEFT onto Cambridge Street, which turns, into Tremont Street. Take first RIGHT onto Beacon Street. The State House is on the third block on the RIGHT.
• Green Line (from the Riverside, Cleveland Circle, Boston College and Arborway Lines)
  Take train to Park Street Station. Once outside the station walk up Park Street toward the State House.

Commuter Rail (take train to either South Station or North Station)

• From South Station, take the Red Line to Park Street Station. Once outside the station walk up Park Street toward the State House.
• From North Station, take the Green Line to Park Street Station. Once outside the station walk up Park Street toward the State House.

Enter the State House via the General Hooker entrance on Beacon Street. If you are facing the State House, this is just to the right of the main gate. For handicap access, please proceed around the corner (Bowdoin Street is the first street on the left) to access the Bowdoin Street entrance or the Ashburton Park entrance. Once inside, take the elevator to the second floor and look for Doric Hall. The State House Tours & Information Desk is located in Doric Hall on the second floor.

Via Interstate-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) East to I-93 N (recommended route for all vehicles): Take Mass Pike I-90 East to I-93 North. Take Exit 26 off of I-93 North (Storrow Dr). As you exit the tunnel, stay left for Leverett Circle/28N. Continue staying left for 28N and proceed through the Leverett traffic lights and onto 28N, the O'Brien Highway. The Museum is on your left. Via Memorial Drive (cars only): Take Mass Pike I-90 East to exit 18 (Allston/Cambridge). After the toll booth ($1.00 for cars) take ramp to right. Take a right at traffic light after crossing bridge over the Charles River to Memorial Drive East/Rt 3 South. Follow Memorial Drive straight to Land Blvd. At the traffic light after the Sonesta Hotel, take a right onto Rt 28 South; O'Brien Highway. The Museum is immediately on the right.

Access Interstate-76 by exiting PA Turnpike at Neshaminy. Take US RT1-S to 76E. Take Interstate-76 to exit 342 Girard Avenue. Turn left at Girard Avenue for parking.

From the West
Access Interstate-76 by exiting PA Turnpike at Valley Forge. Follow 76 to exit 342 Girard Avenue. Follow directional signs to turn left or right on Girard Avenue for available parking.

From Center City
Take the West River Drive to Sweetbriar Drive and turn left. At South Concourse Drive, turn left and go one block to Girard Avenue. To park, turn right on Girard Avenue or continue straight to the Tiger parking lot. Note that on weekends from April through October, West River Drive is closed at certain times to vehicular traffic. During this period, follow the above driving directions from the east.

Public transportation is strongly advised as public parking is very limited. The Metro stop is Smithsonian (orange/blue lines), one block from the Museum. The Metro stations and the route to the Museum via subway are accessible to wheelchair users. Follow subway directions to the Museum at Independence Ave. and 14th St. For more information about the Metro, please consult the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's website.

Parking: The Museum has no public parking facility. There is a paid parking lot at 12th and C St., SW (east of the Museum) which costs approximately $4 per hour, and hourly metered parking along Independence Ave. Area public lots fill early in the day, and street parking is restricted. There is no street or lot parking west of the Museum. Expect to walk three to five blocks to the Museum entrance if you choose to bring your car. Staff are ready to facilitate passenger drop off at the driveway by the 14th St. entrance for visitors needing personal assistance. There is also limited, four-hour bus parking available at D and 14th Streets.

Virginia From the south, take 95 N to 395 N to Rte. 1 N to the 14th St. Bridge.
From the west, take 66 E to Independence Ave.

Maryland Baltimore: Take 95 S to 495 W, to exit 31 to Georgia Ave. S. Georgia Ave.
changes to 7th St. and continues to Independence Ave.

Potomac: Take George Washington Memorial Parkway to the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge to Independence Ave.

Annapolis: Take 50 W to 395 S to the exit marked L'Enfant Promenade/6th and 7th Streets, SW, to Independence Ave.

District of Columbia New York Ave:

• Start out going Southwest on NEW YORK AVE NW toward 7TH ST NW.
