Road Trips to the Real World - Frequently Asked Questions – For Career Services Offices

What does the program cost?
There is no cost to your students who attend the site visits. Students are, however, responsible for paying for their own transportation and meals.

Who is eligible to attend?
The program is designed for liberal arts students at any stage of their educational career. It is primarily intended to be exploratory in nature, and should not be advertised as an actual job interview. We hope that students will come away with a better picture of what’s involved in each career field, as well as networking contacts and potential leads on internships and jobs. Although the focus of the trips is on liberal arts majors, students of all majors are welcome to attend the site visits. (*The Rodale Site Visit is designed for students that are interested in writing/communications careers and for students that would like to work at a leading publisher.)

Can members of EACE (career professionals) attend the site visits?
We hope to fill all of the slots with students. However, if you would like to attend, please let us know and we’ll be happy to fit you in if there are any open spots or last-minute cancellations.

Will there be anyone representing EACE or one of its member colleges/universities at the site visits?
Yes. At least one person from the Liberal Arts Network committee will be at each visit to represent EACE and to answer any questions the students may have.

How will students communicate with EACE if they need to cancel due to an emergency?
In the Students Guidelines section of the registration web site, students are given a number to call for canceling (414-908-4940)

How will snow cancellations be handled?
Each site has a specific way for students to learn if the site visit is cancelled due to a snow emergency. Someone will contact students via email prior to the day of the visit to let them know the process for them to use if there is snow or other inclement weather.

How quickly do the spots for the Road Trips to the Real World fill?
The Liberal Arts Network in past years has had an overwhelming amount of student interest in the program. We have worked hard to expand the number of site visits to accommodate more students. We try to give you much more time to advertise the program so that students at all schools have an equal chance of getting a spot. Student registration will begin on Thursday, November 15 at 10 AM on the EACE Liberal Arts Network Website. Please tell students to register as soon as possible since the spots are expected to fill quickly.

How will I know if any of our students are participating in the Road Trips to the Real World program?
Send a request to Laura Godwin . Be sure to include the name of your school in your request.

How will students know what to wear, how to act professionally, and how to best represent our school at the site visit?
We have provided students with Student Guidelines, a document that can be found on the registration Website. All students are requested to read these guidelines before registering. You are welcome to contact your students and make sure they understand how to make the most out of their site visit.

What if one of my students has a question? Where should I direct them?
You may be able to answer their question, using the information in this document or on the Website. However, if you are unable to answer the question, refer students to Laura Godwin (585) 275-2366 or lgodwin@admin.rochester.edu, Liberal Arts Network co-chair and student registration contact.
