The College of New Jersey seeks an energetic and forward-looking individual to serve as Director of the Career Center. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned administrator who is passionate about career development and the success of graduates, and has the capacity and drive to advance TCNJ's employer development activity. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director provides overall leadership and management for the Career Center. Major programs include the career development, which provides career counseling and workshops to students and alumni throughout their academic and professional careers; recruitment services, which offers students an opportunity to participate in on-campus recruitment opportunities for their full time and internship searches, as well as for graduate school admissions opportunities; and Student Employment, which oversees the hiring and administration of over 1700 students annually. Additional information about the Career Center is available at The Director oversees strategies and initiatives designed to enhance students' ability to reach their post-graduation goals. S/he advises and collaborates with all segments of the College on the full range of issues that impact the career development of students, but with a particular emphasis on academic affairs through our school-liaison service delivery model. The Director ensures that programs are operated in full compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines; oversees the development and implementation of technology into services; and coordinates assessment and continuous improvement activities, including surveying graduates and employers regarding success of TCNJ graduates. The incumbent plans and manages two budgets totaling in excess of $95,000 and supervises eight staff members. The Director partners with College Advancement to steward relationships with alumni and employers to increase individual, corporate, foundation, and government support as well as job and internship opportunities.


Qualifications include a master's degree in higher education, student affairs or a related field (doctorate preferred) and 7 or more years of related experience and successes in higher education career development and employment services, or equivalent; or a minimum of 10 years of significant experience in corporate human resources, talent recruitment or corporate executive leadership with a bachelor's degree (master's preferred) and demonstrated knowledge of student development. The preferred candidate will also have a commitment to the ongoing enhancement of student learning and student life. Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. This position also includes a comprehensive benefits package with health, dental, and prescription plans as well as generous vacation and sick leave allowances. Under a new residency bill signed into law by Governor Chris Christie, any individual hired on, or after September 1, 2011, will be required to establish a principal residence in New Jersey unless their position is exempt. New employees will have a full 365 days to establish such residence, from the effective date of hire. Any new employee who believes that they have a critical need to live outside of New Jersey, or that a move to a permanent residence within the state would constitute a hardship, may request an exemption from the provisions of the law by appealing to a five-member committee to be established by the State for the purpose of hearing such appeals.
