Regional ACE Webinar Presented by SOACE: Life After the Game: Reinventing the Student-Athlete Career Development Experience?

How do you reach student-athletes who aren't interested in "life after the game?"  Why would coaches partner with the career development office? Do career development offices and athletic departments have shared interests?  Learn how the OPCD collaborated with the Athletic Department resulted in recognition by the NCAA and ESPN. This robust collaboration now includes career development, faculty, coaches, athletic directors, and others. As a result of this partnership, nearly 100% of student-athletes have been reached.

Presenters:

  • Patrick Sullivan, Wake Forest University
    Patrick Sullivan has been a career development professional at Wake Forest for many years, working in a variety of roles focused on students and student-athletes. He has worked with student-athletes, teams, and athletic department administrators for more than 10 years and has developed a strong and growing partnership with Student-Athlete Development staff in recent years.

  • Heidi Robinson, Wake Forest University
    Heidi Robinson is Professor of the Practice in the Wake Forest University Education department. She envisioned, created, and teaches five credit-bearing career development classes for students of all levels on the Wake Forest campus and regularly works with student-athletes.

  • Ashley Wechter, Wake Forest University Athletic Department
    Ashley Wechter is in her fifth year at Wake Forest, and her third as the Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Development. Her focus at Wake Forest is three-fold: Personal Development, Career Development and Leadership Development. She administers all student-athlete programming, leads and guides the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.), sits on the Executive Staff, and has taken on strategic planning, professional development, gender equity, sport administration, recruiting, and other responsibilities. Ashley graduated from Wake Forest in 2006 with a bachelor of science in health and exercise science and ran track & field and cross country while at the University. After graduation, she was selected as the "ACC Futures Intern" and worked for Disney Sports.
