Title: “Education and Workforce Development for the 21st Century: Preparing Students for Careers of the Future”

Description: Rapid and dramatic demographic, technological, and economic changes present the nation with enormous challenges at the beginning of the new century. These changes are influencing all walks of life – from education and commerce to the delivery of healthcare and social services – and will have a profound and wide-ranging impact on careers of the future. Working together, the nation’s colleges, universities, and employers will play central roles in preparing Americans for these changes. Among the most critical questions we face are what will students need to know in order to succeed academically and in tomorrow’s marketplace, and what skills and values must they possess? Additionally, what strategies and best practices can EACE’s members use to promote and support career development among an increasingly diverse population? Answers to these questions will influence America’s global competitiveness in the first part of the 21st century.

Dr. Randal D. Pinkett
Founder, Chairman and CEO, BCT Partners
Season 4 Winner of “The Apprentice”

Title: “The Entrepreneur’s Mindset: Fostering 21st Century Thinking in the 21st Century Workforce”

Description: People often think of entrepreneurship as simply owning a business. However, the essence of being an entrepreneur is about seeing opportunities and seizing opportunities. It is about embracing a belief system that there are always ways to innovate and create value in the world. The person who creates a nonprofit to help cancer patients, the individual who dedicates herself to preserving the environment, and the performing artist who tirelessly brings his craft to underprivileged youth, are no less entrepreneurial than the corporate receptionist who figures out a way to answer customer phone calls in a more efficient manner. In pursuing their respective interests, each one exhibits the entrepreneur’s mindset and, increasingly, it is the role of colleges, universities, and even employers, to foster this mindset within their ranks. Dr. Pinkett will share his thoughts on this subject both as an entrepreneur who started his first business while in college and as a winner of the “toughest job interview” on NBC’s hit reality television show, The Apprentice.
