Road Trips to the Real World Committee
Please read the following important information before
registering for a Site Visit
REGISTRATION and WAITLIST
You may register for 2 site visits. If you are interested in additional
sites, please indicate them in 3rd and 4th choice order. Since
this program is advertised to students attending a number of colleges
on the East Coast, the spots for the program fill extremely fast.
If you are interested in attending a site visit, please complete
the registration form as soon as the registration period opens.
Space is limited and is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Even if you submit a registration form, it does not guarantee
you a spot. You may be placed on the waiting list. You will receive
an email soon after registration stating whether you are registered
for the Road Trip or placed on the waiting list. If you are placed
on the waiting list for a particular site visit, you may register
for another visit by contacting Victoria Crispo vcrispo@wagner.edu
or 718.390.3181
Once you are confirmed for a site visit, you will be asked to
RSVP via email to the coordinator of that particular site visit
by Friday, December 19th. Students who do not RSVP by the deadline
will forfeit their spot to a student on the waiting list.
ATTENDANCE
Only register for the site visits that you are committed to attending.
No-shows are not permitted and last-minute cancellations are strongly
discouraged. If you do not show up or cancel late, you will take
a spot away from a deserving student and leave a negative impression
of yourself and your college to the employer. We will have problems
working with these employers again in the future. In addition,
you will become ineligible to participate in the program again
next year.
EMERGENCY CANCELLATIONS
If you must cancel due to an emergency, contact
the coordinator of that site visit, or call 414-908-4940
at least 1 week in advance of the site visit. This will give a
student on the waiting list an opportunity to fill your spot.
SNOW EMERGENCY
Each site has a specific way for students to learn if the site
is cancelled due to a snow emergency. The
coordinator of each site will contact registered students via
email prior to the day of the visit to let you know the
process for you to use if there is snow or other inclement weather.
ARRIVE EARLY
Plan to arrive 15 minutes early so that you have time to collect
yourself and avoid rushing in at the last minute. Review the directions
to your site visit and allow extra driving time to anticipate
rush-hour traffic.
DRESS APPROPRIATELY
Please note that each site has its own recommendations for dress/footwear.
“Business-casual” is a medium between professional
and casual. Suits, jackets, and ties are not necessary for business
casual, but do avoid wearing jeans, tee shirts, and sneakers.
Use your own common sense when dressing for the site visit. When
in doubt, it's better to dress "too professionally"
than "too casually."
ACT PROFESSIONALLY
Although a site visit is not an interview, you are still expected
to be on your best behavior. As a representative of your college,
you can give employers a positive impression by showing an interest
in the day's activities and asking well-researched questions.
Avoid side-bar conservations during the site visit and use the
best possible etiquette.
CHECK YOUR EMAIL
You will be receiving occasional email notices about the site
visit, so be sure to check your email regularly.
If you have additional questions about making the most of your
site visits, contact your Career Center.
MOST OF ALL: Learn all you can, ask questions,
and have fun!
