GUIDELINES:
Getting Started – first contact!
Mentees are encouraged to make contact to schedule the first
meeting, or phone
conversation if distance precludes meeting in person. However,
mentors are
welcome to contact mentees first if they wish.
Getting to Know Each Other
Discuss your professional backgrounds, goals for the relationship
(eg. mentee: what
you hope to gain from this relationship).
Suggested Conversations & Activities
Feel free to expand upon / deviate from these suggestions; they
are simply starting
points.
Conversations:
Current professional challenges facing mentee.
How your respective career services / human resources units
fit into the
larger structure of the mission of your organization.
Current issues and trends in the profession.
Types of professional development opportunities via EACE and
other
professional associations and networks.
Opportunities for collaboration with colleagues at other organizations.
Work / life balance.
Activities:
Meet at an EACE event, attend a session together and discuss
afterward.
Suggest articles or publications to each other for discussion.
Share information and resources relevant to mentee goals.

Mentors Peer Resources -
this is a wonderful site with lots of great information about
mentoring. An especially nice section is “Myths of Mentoring.”
Empowering
the Faculty: Mentoring Redirected and Renewed - This site
specifically discusses the benefits of mentoring in higher education.
National Mentoring Partnership
- The National Mentoring Partnership is an advocate for the
expansion of mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring
initiatives nationwide.
National Mentoring
Center - The National Mentoring Center provides training
and technical assistance for mentoring programs around the country.
Management Mentors
- This is a company that provides consultation with corporate
clients to set up mentoring programs. The site is a good source
of current articles about mentoring.
