Job Description

The Assistant Director of the Career Center contributes to the development and coordination of comprehensive Career Center services including but not limited to: career counseling, job/internship/ graduate school advising, career-related presentations, programs and events, student outreach and marketing, social media management, and database management. This position also serves as a primary contact and liaison to Saint Rose faculty and administrators; informing the campus community about Career Center services, programs and resources, as well as maintaining and further developing campus collaborations.


  • Counsel and advise undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni on career-related issues through walk-in and scheduled appointments (e.g. major and career exploration, part-time jobs, internships, resumes and cover letters, interviewing, networking, job search, graduate/professional school, and post-graduation employment)
  • Develop and present career-related classroom, group and online presentations, including "Career Center overview", resume/cover letter, internships, interviewing, LinkedIn, networking, job search, graduate school, etc., (includes some evening presentations)
  • Plan, coordinate and promote career-related programs (e.g. Career Carnival, Career Development Month, Career Roundtables, Etiquette Dinner, LinkedIn Headshots) •Build cooperative relationships with faculty leading to the integration of Career Center services, programs and resources into academic courses, including classroom presentations and assignments
  • Manage and promote online career management system, including the maintaining faculty/administrator information and outreach (system powered 12Twenty platform) •Develop and manage alumni linked programs and resources including LinkedIn Group, Career Advisory Network, Professional Connections, SAINT Events ("Students & Alumni Interested in Networking Together")
  • Conduct outreach/marketing efforts to the campus community via email, posters, digital signage, Experience StRose App, Blackboard, The Chronicle, and social media etc.
  • Manage office's social media presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SuperFan U, and Wordpress Blog
  • Collaborate with Associate Director on the coordination of Education Expo (Education Job Fair), including correspondence, promotion, and class presentations to students, alumni and faculty
  • Assist with the continued development of the Career Center Handbook and Website •Train and supervise Graduate Assistants and Student Assistants
  • Serve as an office media contact for on- and off-campus television, newspaper and radio inquiries
  • Represent the Career Center at on- and off- campus meetings, committees and events


  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, career development, or related field
  • Experience in higher education career services; working with a variety of constituents including undergraduate and graduates students, alumni, faculty, administrators, and employers
  • Demonstrated ability and experience counseling/advising/coaching students and alumni on topics including career planning, resume, cover letter, internships, interviewing, networking, job search, graduate school etc.
  • Demonstrated proficiency designing and delivering presentations, planning and executing programs/events, outreach and marketing, network and relationship building
  • Possess a dynamic and professional demeanor, strong work ethic, time management skills and ability to work collaboratively; exhibit high energy, flexibility, enthusiasm, initiative, and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with demonstrated ability and experience developing positive collaborative relationships with faculty, administrators and colleagues within and outside the institution
  • Knowledge of organizational social media management, including familiarity with social media management tools such as HootSuite helpful
  • Intermediate level computer skills using a Windows based operating system, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; willingness to learn new programs and applications
  • Administrative experience with 12Twenty career management system, or similar online platform (e.g. Symplicity, Handshake, Purple Briefcase, CSO), highly desirable
  • Experience utilizing career assessment instruments; MBTI certification desirable
  • Must be willing and able to conduct presentations and attend programs in the evening hours and some weekends
