Nathan Elton
Oberlin College
President–Elect

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
I am honored to be a candidate for President-Elect of the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE). I am currently the Associate Director of Career Services at Oberlin College and Conservatory and have held previous positions at Villanova University and Penn State. I credit EACE for my growth as a professional and welcome this opportunity to continue to serve our association.

I joined EACE in July of 2004 and since that time have held a variety of leadership roles, including the past two and a half years as a member of the Board of Directors overseeing our association’s professional development initiatives. Through EACE I have also developed long lasting and rewarding relationships with many association members and have taken advantage of a number of excellent educational opportunities. The association has had an enormous impact on my career and I believe it has provided me with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to lead the association.

I am extremely passionate about the success of EACE and the value it provides our members. I look forward to working with you as President-Elect or in some other capacity in the near future. Thank you for your consideration.

How will you work within your role as President–Elect, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
A stronger organizational identity and higher level of membership engagement can be achieved through a commitment across the association to maximize the value of our career services, employer and associate membership categories. If elected to the President-Elect position I will work with the board and the committees to ensure that EACE is maximizing value by providing multiple opportunities for:

Communication and Collaboration: EACE is well poised to provide the environment for members to use in-person meetings, social networking sites and other technologies to form communities where members can develop solutions to issues facing our respective fields and provide platforms where they can share information with their target audiences.

Professional Development: By developing collaborative relationships with related associations and recruiting experts in our fields, we can expand our affordable series of webinar and in-person professional development events.

Leadership: Active involvement in EACE provides our members with many of the leadership, communication and teamwork skills needed to succeed in the world of work. By encouraging our new members to join committees and nurturing their involvement we will not only have a positive impact on their careers, but will also be developing our future committee chairs, board members and presidents.

John Fracchia
Ithaca College
President–Elect

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
I consider it a great privilege to be nominated for the position of President-Elect. My interest in serving on the board in this capacity stems from a desire to continue serving an organization that has given a great deal to me and from the awareness that we are in the midst of a challenging times for EACE and our profession.

Having recently left the board I know there are many challenges that EACE must successfully address. These include:

  • Fully leveraging technological resources to develop our community and better connect our members.
  • Stabilizing and growing our employer membership base.
  • Building strategic partnerships with regional ACES and other stakeholders (SHRM, Chamber of Commerce) to streamline programs and develop new markets.
  • Promoting the EACE brand to highlight our work, people, and expertise.

Creativity, vision, analytical skills and experience are what I bring to this position. The last includes 2+ years service on the EACE Board and 7 as a committee Chair. I also serve on the Ithaca College Board of Trustees and as an Alliance Assembly Delegate to the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve you. Thank you.

How will you work within your role as President–Elect, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
The greatest strength of EACE is our members and the sense of personal connection that so many of us feel within the Association. While it is all of us who create it, a Board and a President can do a great deal to foster this sense of community.

If chosen to serve I will do so, first, through personal visibility. It is crucial for leaders to be accessible to their members and I will utilize current tools (i.e. social networking sites) and future tools that EACE may develop to actively engage with them. Second, I will set up open forums (online or by phone) to talk with members so that I can hear their ideas, concerns and feedback. Finally, because I believe that it is our duty as well as an imperative to our profession that we develop the next crop of leaders, I will find out whom our emerging leaders are, reach out to them and personally recognize their contributions to EACE. I will encourage fellow board members to do the same.

In my ten years as an EACE member, the people are what have kept me energized. I will do my very best to return the favor.

Jennifer Barr
Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges
Director, Membership Recruitment and Retention

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
I am honored to have been nominated for the EACE Board as Director of Membership Recruitment and Retention. EACE has been an asset to my professional career, an extended arm of my own office. It’s helped me grow within the field and build relationships that have continued since my first days in the profession.

Our Membership is the heart of the association, allowing it to flourish through professional development and networking. Whether through a webinar, the Annual Conference, or a regional networking event, I am well aware that it is the membership that makes these things happen. My interest is simple: to give back by continuing to increase awareness about EACE, encourage potential members to see the promise and value in membership, and promote diversity within the organization. In addition, I intend to preserve current membership with encouragement and belief in the professional association.

How will you work within your role as Director, Membership Recruitment and Retention, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
Since entering the field and joining EACE, I have chaired several committees including Diversity Advancement Committee, Small College Network, Awards and Research Grant Committee, and Liberal Arts Network (now Road Trips to the Real World). I pride myself on making significant improvements through these EACE leadership positions, a process I hope to continue.

By encouraging creative ideas and partnering employers and schools, we can strengthen our identity to new members while at the same time promoting engagement and valuable resources for the current ones. Through both the Diversity Advancement Committee and the Membership Committee, we can advertise to our membership about the significance of promoting EACE in everyday professional events and online social networking, as well as identify members who are not fully taking advantage of our programming to creatively encourage participation.

I would like to focus on increasing membership, and engaging new members so that they feel that this is indeed the right professional home for their interests.  It is so important that potential members fully understanding the wonderful resources EACE provides, and both new and long-term members feel the strength of our network.

Cailin Pachter
Muhlenberg College
Director, Membership Recruitment and Retention

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
During the past few years I have become more involved in EACE, serving as a member of various committees and then co-chair of those committees. I am ready to take my service to the next level. As co-chair of the Awards and Grants Committee, and now the Annual Conference Program Committee, I have been able to get a closer look at the work of the board via the board liaisons, and I am excited to have the opportunity to serve in this capacity. The strength of an organization is in the diversity and engagement of its members. My definition of diversity is a broad one – it includes not only racial and cultural diversity, but also gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, age, type of organization, and experiential background (and perhaps a few more.) That is, all of the ways people can be different from one another. As we continue to engage our members, EACE can draw upon their uniqueness to add value to the organization. When people believe they are contributing to the success of something worthwhile, they are empowered to become even more involved and dedicated. This is how I feel toward the organization and I wish to inspire others to offer their talents as well.

How will you work within your role as Director, Membership Recruitment and Retention, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
In this role I will work closely with the Membership and Diversity Advancement Committees to recruit members for our organization. I hope to brainstorm ideas with them for expanding our membership through innovative marketing strategies, including, but not limited to, social media and other Web 2.0 tools. I will also partner with Member Services, Employer Services, and Professional Development to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all of our members. This could be assessed through surveys and/or focus groups. We should place an emphasis on employer involvement without neglecting our college members. EACE has been doing a great job of providing opportunities for its members to interact with and learn from one another, and I believe this contributes significantly to retention. I would like to find even more ways to engage our members so they feel they are an integral part of the organization. It is also important that they feel they are “getting something” out of their involvement in EACE. With reduced budgets and an emphasis on fiscal responsibility, we must continue to be a value-added resource for our members. I see this position as being instrumental in getting across this message.

Janis Moore-Campbell
The Fox School of Business, Temple University
Director, Professional Development

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
My interest in professional development stems from a desire to advance and position its strategic role for EACE as a professional organization. Professional Development is often viewed as a voluntary and largely private activity that serves the needs of individual members. Now, more than ever, it’s important to also view and position professional development as an important function that serves the needs of EACE organizations.

How will you work within your role as Director, Professional Development, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
A wide range of challenging positions - teacher, director, facilitator, advisor and consultant, form the layers of my professional persona, rich and deeply colored with lived experience in a variety of settings. Each of these roles greatly impacts my approach to working with others and undergirds my passion to always learn more about forces in our environment that drive continuous improvement. One can never underestimate the effectiveness of one-to-one interactions and the effectiveness of robust technologies to maintain connections and promote member engagement. Both are vitally important to EACE’s continuing organizational effectiveness.

Jill Bodino Milon
Monster.com
Director, Technology and Information Management

Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity?
Throughout various roles within the organization over the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to see many different facets of the organization and benefit from all it has to offer. I had the honor of serving as the Director of Technology and Information Management for the last 2 years. It was truly exciting to play an active role in reviewing various technology opportunities and leveraging them to help the EACE membership reach each other more efficiently and effectively; however, there is a lot more work to be done. When I was advised of my nomination, I was honored and looked forward to the opportunity to serve an additional term to help EACE. I plan to build upon the stepping stones from my predessors and my work over the past two years to take EACE to the next level with our use of technology.

How will you work within your role as Director, Technology and Information Management, to help strengthen EACE's organizational identity and promote member engagement?
Our website depicts who we are and is the cornerstone of our interactions with each other as well as potential members. If elected as the Director of Technology and Information Management, I would like to take the feedback gathered from the membership over the course of my previous term to further enhance the EACE website. This includes a plan to better portray our organization through the look and feel of our website and a strategy to engage and connect members regardless of where they are within the region. I would like to see EACE leverage technology to host more virtual events and network virtually to enhance our long-standing personal connections and build even more.
