EACE 2018-2018 Board of Directors Elections

Director, Technology & Information Management Candidate

Emily Miethner
Founder, CEO, FindSpark

1. Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity.

I’d be thrilled to use my skills to support the growth of EACE in the Director of Technology role. I’m well-versed in and passionate about technology and digital and social media. At my first EACE conference, I used technology — Twitter —  to break the ice with other members by seeing who was using the hashtag in advance of the conference and connecting with those who I recognized. That had a huge positive impact on my experience, and I’d love to be a champion for how tech and digital resources can enhance the experience of all EACE members in various ways. I’ve enjoyed using my knowledge of tech tools and resources to support EACE and its members so far, and would be honored to do that at a larger level as a board member.

2. What skills and experiences do you possess that have prepared you to be successful in this role?

Since joining EACE, I’ve been a member of the tech committee, led multiple social media/tech - focused webinars, a Twitter chat, led a session on social media at the conference, and participated as speaker at CSTM. These experiences have helped me gain insights on the goals and challenges EACE and its members have. My professional career has focused on digital marketing and community building, from my past roles in publishing and startups to my current role as CEO and Founder of FindSpark.com, a national online/offline diverse career community with 27,000+ millennial members, 3,000+ FindSpark Educators (Higher Ed pros) and hundreds of top employers. I’m also an adjunct professor at multiple colleges in NYC, including at Fashion Institute of Technology where I teach “Social Media Applications.” As a speaker, I’ve lead dozens of keynotes, talks, and panels about social media, millennials, and networking at events like SXSW Interactive, Social Media Week, Social Media Weekend at Columbia, and have been featured in VICE, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Good Morning America, amongst others.

Inside and outside of work I have my finger on the pulse of tech and digital resources and trends, truly enjoy working with others to make things happen and drive progress, and am passionate about diversity and inclusion.

3. What ideas and/or goals do you have for this position?

The main goal I’d have is to use tech and digital tools to increase connections between members and resource and knowledge sharing throughout the year. For instance, I’d like to scale the relationships and knowledge gained through the EACE conference beyond the event and for those who can’t attend in person.

I’d like to use technology to make things happen more efficiently and collaboratively at all levels of leadership. For instance, making sure that tools and processes different committees are effectively using are known across committees.

Finally, I’d like to use these tools to increase participation in all the programs and opportunities EACE offers its members and increase membership as well.
