EACE 2018-2018 Board of Directors Elections

Director, Membership Recruitment & Retention Candidate

Christine Cervelli
Assistant Director, Career Development Services, New Jersey Institute of Technology

1. Describe your interest in serving on the EACE Board in this capacity.

EACE has been instrumental in providing professional development and leadership opportunities for me and my colleagues.  Joining EACE was one of the best decisions I have made within my career.  I have had the opportunity to meet and work with career services professionals throughout the region and have had opportunities to develop leadership skills as well as remain on the forefront of information connected to career services and college hiring.  Helping the organization continue to grow by retaining and attracting new members, especially employers, is something that I believe will help EACE continue to be one of the best professional organizations in our industry.  I will be able to support EACE through initiatives that provide members with quality programs, resources, and opportunities for development.  EACE supports diversity and inclusion and I will help continue to grow an environment in which new ideas and experiences are supported.    I am interested in working to foster an environment in which all members can learn new practices, philosophies, and develop as professionals.

2. What skills and experiences do you possess that have prepared you to be successful in this role?

I have held many leadership roles within EACE.  I have been a co-chair of the Public Relations Committee for the past two years.  Within this role, I have worked with the majority of committees and helped them to strategize ways to best advertise the work they do and the programs they run.  Through these interactions, I am familiar with many facets of the organization and am confident that I can help strategize ways to attract new members.  In addition, I was a co-chair of the EACE Membership Committee for two years.  During that time, we created membership solicitation flow procedures.   We also helped to create an infographic which highlights the benefits of EACE membership to employers.  I understand the importance of continuing the mission of creating employer partnerships which can lead to membership.

This role requires an understanding of diversity and multi-cultural exposure.  I work with a diverse student and alumni population at NJIT and have worked closely with student organizations on events and initiatives which support their needs.  In addition, I have experience working within leadership roles in professional associations.  I was one of the co-founders for the New Jersey Career Center Consortium (NJC3) and served in multiple board positions including President and VP for Awards and Recognition of the New Jersey Cooperative Education and Internship Association (NJCEIA.)

3. What ideas and/or goals do you have for this position?

My goals for this position include:

  • Work with Chairs to help facilitate partnerships with other committees to increase membership, especially for employers.
  • Encourage targeted employer outreach to grow EACE membership and engagement opportunities.
  • Help to develop and incorporate diversity and inclusion initiatives as part of the programming for events including the Conference, Webinars, and Winter/Spring Splash events.
  • Increase the number of applicants for the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship and help support the EACE Mentorship Program.
  • Support and contribute to strategic planning to further the overall mission of EACE.
